Mystery Solved!

So we have had two crazy weeks that have nothing to do with me healing from the surgery. The day after Del took the kids to the lake on Labor Day Lindsey woke up with excruciating somach pain. Del took her into the pediatrician and he couldn't rule out appendicitis so he sent them for a CT to check it out. Two hours later the pediatrician called me and informed me that she didn't have appendicitis. Great news!... but she only has one kidney!!!!! What???? Needless to say I was quite shocked and upset. What she has is called a HORSESHOE Kidney. I guess this is kinda common. 1 in 400 kids and most of the time you never even know it unless you have issues. Lindsey has had a lot of issues with urinary tract infections in the last two years so this probably has something to do with it. I guess sometimes the kidneys fuse together during gestation. Isn't it amazing that so many children are born so healthy and strong when there are so many little things that have to go just right and even when something goes just a little wrong, it can still be OK. (in her case) So after many blood tests and scans with contrast they think her abdominal pain was a viral infection but they are getting her set up for a test that checks for reflux when she urinates. Hopefully they will get that scheduled next week and she does have to be on a low dose of antibiotics to keep her UTI's under control. When you don't have a spare (kidney) - you gotta be good to the one you have! She is feeling much better and played in her first soccer game of the season and even scored a goal.
