How can you really tell when your kids have a broken bone? I hate to overreact and rush them to the ER everytime they fall after regular pediatrician hours but then you fell pretty guilty when you let them go all night plus a few hours and then finally take them in because they still can't straighten their leg the next day. How do you really know.... It was a long day but so far she is doing fine. 6 weeks on crutches is going to get old really fast. They wouldn't put a swimming cast on it because it is too big. I'm still hoping they will put one on right before we leave for Hawaii in 5 weeks but he said probably not. Oh well, there are definately worse things in life! I'm so grateful it was only a broken leg. Kids scare me soooo bad! I thought boys were the ones that always broke bones. So far every single on of our kids has broken something!
Another one bites the dust
The pictures pretty much tell the story I think. Carli broke her leg. She was on the trampoline while I was out of town. (see my blog www.deltanner.com for more info on where I was) I ended up having to come home early to help out. She can't walk on her leg for 6 weeks. Her leg is broken below her knee. School is going to be really interesting. Not to mention Hawaii next month. These next few weeks should be very interesting for all of us but especially Jen. Tomorrow Jen is going to have to go to school to help her go to the bathroom. We think we may paint the crutches pink and bling them out. Thanks to everyone who has called and come by.

Mystery Solved!
So we have had two crazy weeks that have nothing to do with me healing from the surgery. The day after Del took the kids to the lake on Labor Day Lindsey woke up with excruciating somach pain. Del took her into the pediatrician and he couldn't rule out appendicitis so he sent them for a CT to check it out. Two hours later the pediatrician called me and informed me that she didn't have appendicitis. Great news!... but she only has one kidney!!!!! What???? Needless to say I was quite shocked and upset. What she has is called a HORSESHOE Kidney. I guess this is kinda common. 1 in 400 kids and most of the time you never even know it unless you have issues. Lindsey has had a lot of issues with urinary tract infections in the last two years so this probably has something to do with it. I guess sometimes the kidneys fuse together during gestation. Isn't it amazing that so many children are born so healthy and strong when there are so many little things that have to go just right and even when something goes just a little wrong, it can still be OK. (in her case) So after many blood tests and scans with contrast they think her abdominal pain was a viral infection but they are getting her set up for a test that checks for reflux when she urinates. Hopefully they will get that scheduled next week and she does have to be on a low dose of antibiotics to keep her UTI's under control. When you don't have a spare (kidney) - you gotta be good to the one you have! She is feeling much better and played in her first soccer game of the season and even scored a goal. One of these days I'm going to post more pics on this blog!

thanks
I'm almost two weeks since my surgery and feeling so grateful to be healing so well. I have been so amazed at the love and concern that my family and friends have shown to me. I am truly so lucky to have so many wonderful caring and thoughtful people that have called, come by to visit, sent an email, etc. I feel so blessed to be able to have had this surgery and I really think that I will be able to live life more fully. I feel like so much time has been wasted on driving to and from therapy and trying to figure out how to not live with pain. Hopefully that will all be drastically reduced once I rehab for a couple of months. I hope I have come away stronger from this trial in my life and be able to learn from it. Thank you to all of my great friends and family. I love you all.

A Day of Labor
Lindsey got up and was able to clear one side of the wake. Next time we go out, I'm sure she'll be able to clear both sides.
The biggest news of the whole day though was Sydnee. She crossed both sides of the wake many times; thus earning herself a new wakeboard. Sydnee made me sign a contract months ago (and yes, she literally typed up a contract and ambushed me one day and under duress forced me to sign it) promising to buy her a pink wakeboard like her friend Ansley's if she was able to cross both sides of the wake. So this week, she earned it. Congratulations Sydnee. Now if you're dad could just get a job so he could afford that wakeboard! If anyone wants to see more pictures from the trip, leave a comment, and I'll post them to my Flickr account.

Update

Jen had a follow up appointment with her doctor yesterday and things are looking good. He told her that in five weeks her body will be completely healed. That means she'll be able to play tennis! She is looking forward to being able to get back to her old self again. My Mom is here this week helping and it's awesome to have her here. It is especially helpful since I'm leaving tomorrow for a trip. Speaking of me leaving, I've decided to start my own blog since this one doesn't get updated much, and Jen doesn't like me updating it anyway. You can go to www.deltanner.com to view it.
